Quitting Policy

In Bridge Club Live we do not tolerate quitting!

Quitting is the deliberate, and without acceptable reason, leaving of, and not returning to, a table, either

Between the dealing of any board onto the screen and the end of play of that board

Before the end of a 4 board DIDO round

Before the end of the final board of a Tourney

Before the end of a match in a Special Competition

Quitting has always been fairly rare in Bridge Club Live. The vast majority of departures from tables in the above situations are due to connection issues or for some domestic emergency. However, quitting does occasionally occur due to players seeking to avoid a bad score on a board or because they no longer wish to continue playing with a particular partner or against assigned opponents in DIDO or Tourneys or matches.

Having unexpected visitors is generally not a reasonable excuse for quitting. Visitors should be prepared to wait until a commitment to the three other players at the BCL table is fulfilled. It is, however, not unreasonable in these circumstances to seek agreement with the other players to leave a table in DIDO after completion of a board in play even if the round has not been completed.

Quitting spoils the game for the three remaining players at the table, and, if in a Tourney, all the other tables in the Tourney as substitutes have to be sought.
Members are encouraged to submit an Incident Report

if it appears that a departure may have been due to quitting or

if you think you may have missed out on a good score.

Our TD will apply sanctions against quitters as per any other behavioural offences.
Our TD will also assign a score for unfinished boards and this will affect PPI in rated rooms and will affect Master Points in Tourneys and Special Competitions. Our TD will generally decline to adjust PPI if adverse for the member reporting an incident.

If you find yourself disconnected, please try to return to your table as soon as you can. If you are unable to do so, and if it was not clear that you were suffering a disconnection, it is recommended that you send a Sticky Note to the other three players to let them know what happened. If you can’t remember who the other players were, it is helpful to e-mail incidentmanager@bridgeclublive.com so that we are aware of what happened.
Please note that if you remove a disconnected player from your table, the server will not immediately remove the player from the club so it may appear that the player is lurking for some while, even though disconnected.

Quitters are not welcome in Bridge Club Live!
